I have seen the interview with Mark Zukerberg at the Web 2.0 Summit in November 2010 and I realized how brilliant and unique the founder of Facebook is. Mark is just doing what he knows how to do: creating the best possible platform for people to make their lives easier. And he is doing it being the real soul and the person responsable for Facebook, that is, beeing its CEO. Taking all the risks and all the benefits, and with an incredible commitment from a young founder who already has a movie of his live and has been elected as the 2010 person of year by Time magazine.
Tim O'Reilly (O'Reilly Media, Inc.) and John Battelle (Federated Media Publishing) asked Mark many questions about dominance, power, strategy, internet maps, etc. and after a while I think they realized how simple and fantastic Mark's approach to every issue was: build the core and everything else is just the consequence of having built that incredible, open and simple platform.
If you think about all the companies that are considered internet treasures, the majority are platforms where people or companies receive more value than the price they pay for using them. Mark is only obssessed with building a platform that responds to Facebook's core purpose: connecting people's lives. And from there, he just wants to open the platform to the rest of the Internet world. It is so simple, it is so powerful. And the internet dominance battle for users, advertising, ecommerce, privacy and related issues is just a consequence of the incredible job done by Mark and his team at Facebook.
